Robert L. French 1933 – 2018
BANGOR - ROBERT LAMAR FRENCH, “BOATS”, age 85, passed away on July 5, 2018, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor, Maine as a result of a stroke.
Robert was born in Hackensack, New Jersey on February 20, 1933. Robert was the fourth child of Jacob T. and Elizabeth French. He was predeceased by three brothers, Jay T., Donald, and Bruce, and one sister, Shirley Zeegers. He also left behind two nieces, Colleen (French) Moreshead, of Windham, Patricia (French) Eaton, of Trenton, and a nephew, Garry “Rick” Zeegers of Naples, Maine.
Robert joined the United States Navy after graduating from high school. Robert made his career in the Navy. His military experience left him a Senior Chef, and Boatswains Mate. He is recipient of a Bronze star with combat “v”, Vietnam Campaign medal and Service medal. He also received two Purple Hearts during his term in Vietnam. He was awarded Navy Commendations, Combat Action Ribbon, and National Defense Good Conduct Medal. Wayne and I send our condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Boats' family. We have many fond members of visitng with him on Lower Lead Mountain Pond. Lots of great meals and fun games of Old Hell! He was a special friend to my Mom and Dad (Jack and Mina Hare) and we are all richer for having known him. He was a good man and I enjoyed hearing his stories of his Naval days. He will be sorely missed!
