Roberta Nason

Freeport - Roberta Helen Soule Bailey Nason, 89, went home peacefully to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. The daughter of Robert Soule and Margaret Curtis Soule Leighton, she was born on September 16, 1921 in Lisbon Falls and educated in Freeport.

Roberta married Harold Bailey of Freeport in 1939. She worked at several local shoe manufacturers. In 1961 she married Kenneth Nason and retired to NM in 1979 and returned in 2003 to live with her daughter Reta in Freeport.

She was a life-long member of the Harraseeket Grange receiving her 75-year certificate; she also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and organized the one-room Bailey School reunion. She was a faithful member of Gospel Light Fellowship and served in various ministries. In addition to spending time with her family, Roberta enjoyed poetry, singing, drama, harmonica and traveling.

Roberta is survived by her daughter Reta Carter and her husband Wilbur of Freeport; her son George Bailey and his wife Kathy of TN; her son Kenneth Nason and his wife Lila of AL; her sister Frances Thompson of Freeport; her brother Edgar Leighton and his wife Dot of Freeport, 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Roberta was predeceased by husband Harold and their two sons: Robert and William Bailey; husband Kenneth; daughter Joanne Markham; sons Parker and Michael Nason and two grandsons.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Gospel Light Fellowship, 412 State Road, West Bath (formerly New Meadows Inn) on Friday, June 17 at 2:00 PM and will be officiated by Reverends Arden and Brenda Cross and Reverends Don and Gayla Maguire. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gospel Light Fellowship Building Fund, 58 Wildwood Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery at a later date.
