Rodney Wayne Moody passed away at 9:15 am on Sunday November 5th, 2023 at Hawthorne House in Freeport, ME at the age of 80. He was born in Houlton, ME on October 15th, 1943, to Chester L. and Katheryn (Crone) Moody. He was a small baby, a preemie, weighing 2lbs 4oz spending 16 weeks in an incubator to come home weighing 4lbs 8oz. He lived in Houlton 2 years then moved to Danforth, ME in 1945 until the family moved to Portland, ME in 1948 so his parents could find work.
He grew up loving the city of Portland and making many friends over the years. A member of the class of 1962, he left a month before graduation for his next adventure in Tennessee, leaving his mother Katheryn to collect his diploma, to be with his older sister Janet while she was pregnant. He spent 6 months there helping, coming home to work at the First National Warehouse for 2 years as a bookkeeper. After which he went to work for Corenco Rendering Company for another 2 years, then Suburban Propane for the next 5 years; while there he attended and graduated from Gray's Business College with a 2 year degree in accounting. This lead him to a career with the Town of Lisbon, ME as the Finance Director (also serving as interim Town Manager several times), retiring 35 years later. Only in retirement for 5 years he decided that it wasn't for him just yet and took a part time position for the Brunswick and Bath Town Offices until his final retirement in 2019.
He is survived by his sister Janet (Moody) Harriman and her husband Theodore, nephew Scott Harriman and his wife Janet, niece Katheryn (Harriman) Farrington and her husband Todd. Great nieces and nephews: Derek and Molly Farrington, Katelyn and Joshua Hyde, Breanne Farrington, Theodore (T.J.) Farrington, Mollie Farrington, Shayla Harriman and 6 great-great nieces and nephews. His beloved dog Opie, and his unofficial adopted son Dennis Carver.
He lived in Freeport most of his life and had many good friends, they partied and traveled, and just enjoyed life. Rodney was always in his car, he loved to drive. A loving family man, though a small man he had a big heart, a powerhouse to be reckoned with and never backed down from his beliefs. He loved to tell stories and make people laugh, a wonderful humanitarian, working with the Town of Lisbon many holidays in soup kitchens and outreach programs. He was known to take money from his own pocket to help people get a nice meal when they needed it. He enjoyed life, his family, friends and dog, he will always be known as a great and loving man.
Family and friends are invited to attend an hour of visitation on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 1-2 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
