Sally Ann Russell passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME, on Wednesday, July 20, after a valiant fight with kidney disease. Sally had recently moved to Yarmouth, ME, from Wayland, MA, to be closer to Family.
Sally was charismatic, adventurous, and a generous spirit who lived life to the fullest. Born November 29, 1954 in Wellesley, MA, Sally graduated from Wellesley High School in 1973, then did a gap year traveling through Europe and sailing in the Virgin Islands. She attended Katherine Gibbs in Boston and went on to be part of the creative department at Hill Holiday Connors Cosmopulos, where she spent over 20 years of her career. Her favorite year was 1981 when she was working in the London office and fell in love with all things Royal.
Sally's happiest times were spent on her beloved Nantucket island. At all times of the year, Sally loved her time on the island with friends and family, sailing, beachcombing, entertaining, gardening, and cooking her favorite Nantucket bay scallops. Sally also became a master craftswoman, opening the Nantucket Collection and weaving Nantucket Lightship baskets of all sizes and designs.
Sally was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth (Hannon) Russell; her father, James W. Russell; and her brother, James "Jay" Russell. She is survived by her brother, Gardner "Chip" Russell, his partner, Terri Scribner; sister-in-law, DeeDe Baietti, her husband, Rick Baietti; niece, Rebecca Spear, her husband, Marshall; and Sally's great-nephews, Jack, Calvin, and Walter, all of Yarmouth, ME.
Cheers to Sal-Gal, may her whimsical spirit live on. A Celebration of Life will be held for Sally and her brother, Jay (who passed this Winter). Join us for lunch at the Pierce House in Lincoln, MA, on Thursday, September 15, at 11:30 am. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Lindquist Funeral Home, YARMOUTH, ME.
