August 28, 1929 – November 11, 2010
Falmouth - Sally Talbot Skillin died in her home Thursday evening. She had been surrounded by family and friends for the last few weeks of her life, and in her own way, found a quiet moment to leave.
Sally lived her entire life in Falmouth. She was born in her parents’ home on Gray Road. After graduating from Falmouth High School in 1948, she attended Westbrook Junior College, graduating with an associate’s degree. She married John A. Skillin, her high school sweetheart, on September 20, 1952.
Above all, Sally loved family and friends, both furry and human. In recent years, her cats, grandchildren and great-grandchildren drew the warmest smiles. The family always enjoyed the outdoors. In the early years, there was camping, family gatherings, and cook-outs even in the dead of winter. Sally might not have been the first person in the car, but she loved the ride. Kids and dogs always out-numbered adults. Later, there were camps at Indian Pond and Moosehead Lake. After the kids grew up, Sally and husband, John, had time to ride the back roads of Maine, dividing the summer between Falmouth and the camp on Moosehead Lake.
Always supportive of John’s career and the family business, Sally worked part-time at Skillin’s Greenhouse until this past spring. Sally was well-known for her laugh and love of a good joke, often off-color.
Sally was predeceased by her husband, John A. Skillin, in 2002. Surviving Sally are: her brother, Richard Talbot of Falmouth; her children: Jill Skillin of Washington, Vermont; Terry Skillin and wife Erlene of Falmouth; Jeff Skillin and wife Lisa of Falmouth; five grandchildren: Chad, Kristina, Cayla, Jessica and Lee; two great-grandchildren: Pyper and Natalie; John’s brother, David Skillin and wife Brenda, also of Falmouth. In the handling of those Skillin boys, Sally and Brenda were sisters-in-law “partners.” As important as blood relations, were the friends, too numerous to list. She loved you all.
Calling hours will be at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at the West Falmouth Baptist Church, 18 Mountain Road, Falmouth at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 followed by a reception at the church. Sally will be buried beside John at Pine Grove Cemetery, 9 Waites Landing Road, Falmouth at 4:00 P.M.

Sally loved flowers, but donations could be made in her name to the Animal Refuge League, PO Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098 or Beacon Hospice, 54 Atlantic Place, South Portland, ME 04106.
Sally was a character to the end and she wanted to go out with a yellow rose in her teeth. Her family will respect her wish.
