Stephen Edward Mercer, Jr. passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Thursday, August 12, 2017
He was born in Portland, Maine April 2, 1940 the son of Stephen E. Mercer and Elizabeth (Lill) Dawe Mercer. He lived in Falmouth most of his life and attended Falmouth schools.
Stephen served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He worked as a police officer, an EMT and for public works in Falmouth. He also worked at Mercer’s ESSO (the family business), L.R. Ruby & Son, and R.E. Coleman.
He loved boating and flying small aircraft. He had a way of telling a story that would make you laugh until your sides hurt. He is survived by his two sisters: Dorothy Mercer Pooler of Hollis, Lillian Mercer Strout of Portland, as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A graveside service at Blanchard Cemetery will be held on Saturday August 19th 2017 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a donation to Audubon Gilsland Farm Audubon Center at 20 Gilsland Farm Road Falmouth, Maine 04105. You may offer your condolences online at www.lindquistfuneralhome.com
