Steven Steve C. Walker

June 3, 1941June 26, 2013

Steven C. Walker, 72, of Bowdoinham died June 26, 2013 at Parkview Adventist Medical Center after a year of declining health. He was born in Lynn, MA, the only son of Valborg and Lloyd Walker. The family moved from Saugus to Maine when he was four and Steve graduated from Richmond High School, Class of 1961. He enlisted in the Coast Guard and served in the Coast Guard Reserve.

Steve had the good sense to marry his wife, Joann of Freeport, in 1965 and they had two children. Steve was a man who enjoyed working, not only as a machinist at BIW for 37 years, but also on his farm as a “hobby” and true to form he “loved” his John Deere tractors. Steve enjoyed other interests like mountain climbing (Katahdin six times), white water canoeing, camping and simply traveling – once, all the way to Alaska (before deciding to turn around).

Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joann Walker of Bowdoinham; his son Steven and his wife Penny of South Portland and their children Skye and Brooke; his daughter Sherry and her husband Paul of Bowdoinham and their children Aaron and Brynne and Aaron’s son Ethan; his brother-in-law Daniel and his son Daniel; his brother-in-law David and his wife Julie; his brother-in-law Paul and his wife Carol; sister-in-law Jane; as well as a large extended family of cousins and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his sister Constance.

Visiting hours will be on Friday August 15, 2013 from 6 – 8 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, ME. A memorial service will be held Saturday August 17 at 2:00 PM at Richmond Corner Baptist Church, 974 Main Street, Richmond, ME. Burial will be in Bay View Cemetery in Bowdoinham.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I always enjoyed visiting with Steve Sr. and all of you. I could always see how much Steve Sr. loved his family, you all were the most important things to him! The photo gallery just made me smile and was a real celebration of Steve and all that was important to him!

It was my pleasure to work with Steve at Hardings for many years. He and I shared something in common as we both were named Steve Walker. It became routine that we would exchange the greeting "Hi Cuz" whenever we ran into each other. I remember him saying "if you buy a car, buy a Saturn". My condolences to his family.

Oh after looking at all the pictures what a wonderful tribute! To the whole Walker family you can be so proud of the husband and father you had Steve I will miss your laugh and stories. Thanks for trying to keep me and Sherry straight while we were trying to get thru our teen years! Especially when you told Sherry to NEVER listen to me when I know a short cut!. I am sending you all my love and prayers!
