FREEPORT-- On July 20, 2017, Thomas (Tim) A. Hill went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. He was born on June 4th, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Alexander D. and Elinor C. Hill. He attended Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, Colby College in Waterville, and received a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his commission in the U.S. Navy in 1968, serving for four years, including a deployment to the Vietnam Conflict aboard the USS Newport News. He taught history at Falmouth High School and then social studies at Yarmouth Jr. High School where he was selected as Yarmouth Teacher of the Year in 1987. After retiring from teaching, he worked as a sales representative and trainer at LL Bean. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and outdoor enthusiast. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Adora Clark Hill; his two sons: Bruce A. Hill and his wife Susan of New Paltz, New York, and Christopher C. Hill and his wife Jennifer of Yarmouth; four precious grandchildren: Veronica, Alex, Abby, and Emaline; his brother E. Bruce Hill of Pittsburgh, and sister Margot C. Ball and her husband Hiram of Orleans, Massachusetts. As a committed Christian, he was a member of White Pine Community Church where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher and home group leader.
Tim had a wonderful sense of humor and often used his acting talents to enrich his students’ classroom experiences. He also played roles in two Portland Players productions in the 1980s. As a child and later as an adult, he and his family spent many summer vacations on Cape Cod. Upon retirement, Tim and his wife moved to Colorado where they enjoyed skiing, fly fishing and experiencing the majesty of the Colorado Rockies. They also developed many new and special friendships.
Visiting hours will be at Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth on Friday, July 28 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A celebration of life will occur at Greely Middle School on Tuttle Road in Cumberland on Saturday, July 29 at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow.
