Yarmouth – Thomas Rand Moulton, 54, of Yarmouth died Monday February 27, 2012 after a year long battle with brain cancer. He was born January 12, 1958 in Portland, one of three sons of Louise (Clukey) and Harold Moulton, Sr. Tom was educated in Yarmouth schools; he especially enjoyed playing basketball, and graduated from Yarmouth High School, Class of 1976.
Tom’s experience of working through the ranks with a paving company in Lewiston, gave him the confidence to start, Tom Moulton Paving & Construction, Inc, in 1987. He had the good fortune and even better sense to marry Kathleen Tierney in 1980 and together they had three children. Kathy predeceased him in 2004. Tom was known for being a hard worker and doing quality work which was only outdone by his devotion to his family – the only time he would leave work was to attend family member games. He was a hockey coach for Casco Bay Hockey and coached the Yarmouth Middle School girls’ basketball team.
Through the years Tom enjoyed a good game of “cards”, cribbage, playing golf at Val Halla, snowmobiling, as well as hunting and fishing “upta camp”, a retreat he built for family and friends to enjoy on Kingsbury Pond. He was also an accomplished dart player with a number of championships and rumored New England wide ranking.
Tom had a sharp perception of others and the world around him, tempered with a dry and unique sense of humor. Tom was one of the “appearances can be deceiving” kind of guys – “gruff” – but with a big heart that was truly caring, supportive and readily let others receive credit for any work done. His was the sweetest, most caring, heart of gold.
Tom is survived by his wife of five and a half years, France (Leclerc) Moulton; his five children: Darcee, Keith, Stephanie, Chad and his fiancée Ashley, and Shane; his mother, Louise Standley; his brothers: Harold “Butch” Jr. and Edward “Chipper”; a large extended family and many, many friends.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday March 4 from 2 – 5 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth with a funeral service on Monday March 5 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 346 Main Street, Yarmouth.
