

Anita Persise nee (Zabavnik) of Yonkers died on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at age 95. Born on April 6, 1919 to Joseph and Katherine (Komar) Zabavnik in Yonkers where she was raised and attended local schools. Mrs. Persise was the Outreach Coordinator for the Office of the Aging for the City of Yonkers for over twelve years; retiring in 1985. On May 27, 1939 she married Daniel Lawrence Persise in St. John the Baptist Church. He died in 1974. Anita was parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mother’s; Mothers Guild Monastery Players, Monastery News and a former leader with both the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts; and most recently the Senior Kids. Mrs. Persise is survived by her two daughters; Patricia Smith and Katherine Lauscha. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and her sister Georgina Kerr. She was predeceased by her son Daniel who died in 2007 and three sisters; Mary Redmond; Katherine Polachek and Barbara Bordas. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, December 9th at 9:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Persise Family Burse or Sacred Heart food Pantry, c/o 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y. 10703.
