
Anne (nee Smith) Broderick passed away on November 8, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Home in the Bronx at the age of 99. She had become a resident there two years ago when she broke her hip. Prior to that , she was a lifelong resident of Yonkers and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Anne was born on September 30, 1913 in Yonkers, New York. She was the only surviving child of Catherine (nee Ellis) and Declan Smith. Anne graduated from St. Joseph’s Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers. She married Daniel Broderick (from County Galway, Ireland) on May 25, 1938 in Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers. During their married life, Anne and Dan were very active in the City of Yonkers. Anne worked on the Board of Elections and they were on the first committee for the Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day parade and stayed involved until Dan’s death in 1978. Dan’s band had provided the entertainment for the parade dinner until the early 1970’s and Anne was always beside him. Anne and Dan had been married for forty years at the time of his death. During her lifetime, Anne was an active member of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Ancient Order of Hibernians Auxiliary and had served as president of the AOH several times. Anne enjoyed her life as a homemaker. She was famous for her weekly get-togethers with her friends, her extensive travels and her hospitality. When she went to St. Patrick’s, she was famous for blowing kisses to everyone she met. She enjoyed going to the pub with her friends Frances, Pat and Mary where they would reminisce of old times and travels and listen to the “oldies” on the jukebox. Anne is survived by her cousins, Rev. James Sheehan and Peggy (Tony) Baird, as well as her nephews, Andrew (Jo-Anne) Konrad, Peter (Louise) Konrad, James ( Rose) Broderick, John Broderick and niece, Betty Boe, and several grandnieces and nephews, great grandnieces and nephews and a great grandniece. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, November 18th at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Her cousin, Rev. Sheehan will celebrate her life at a Mass for Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers, on Monday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
