CW is survived by his three daughters Teresa (Terrie) Means, Michele Jones, Tanya Young (Robert); three grandchildren Tashawn Young, Tyson Jones & Tajia Jones, one great grandson Zayn Young; siblings, Ira Means (Mary), Evelyn Stanciel, Bobie J. Means and Larry Means (Betty), and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Means, parents Ira & Almeatter Means, sisters Zenobia Owens, Doris Williams, and Ernestine Nunn.
CW was born on December 24, 1940 in Itta Bena, Mississippi to Parents Ira & Almeatter Means. CW moved from Itta Bena, Mississippi and eventually landed in Yonkers, New York where he worked for County Automotive VW in Larchmont, New York for over 30 years. CW was a true athlete. In his free time he enjoyed jogging, bowling, and playing softball. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends playing Spades and Checkers. He also liked to watch old Westerns and all Sporting events. CW was a great father and provider for his family. He was a kind hearted man, who you could always count on. He was a person that brought pure happiness to all those in contact with him. Although he was a man of few words, those words always proved to be insightful, kind, caring, uplifting, humorous and encouraging.
Later in life, CW started studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He had a true love for what he was learning and applied those principals in his life until his death.
Whether you knew him as CW, Charles, Mr. Means, Lil Bro, Uncle Charles, Pop-Pop, or Dad, you were always fortunate to be in his presence. And he left a mark on your heart.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday, June 22nd at 4:00 pm at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home with a service at 6:00pm.
Revelations 21: 4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
