
Carol Bernacchia (nee Moen) of Yonkers died on Monday March 7, 2016 at age 90. She was born on October 16, 1925 to Raymond and Mae (Lindsey) Moen in Yonkers where she was raised and graduated from both Sacred Heart Grade School and Sacred Heart HS. On November 16, 1945 she married George A. Bernacchia one of the 3 founders of what is now known as Liberty Lines Bus Corp; he died in 1995. Mrs. Bernacchia was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, a member of their alter society, taught instruction classes with the C.C.D. program and did volunteer work in the school office. She was also a member of the Board of Directors at the Woman’s Institute and served as both Vice-President and President of the Morsemere Garden Club from 1983 to 1987 and also served as their Historian. Carol is survived by her 2 children Susan (Roger) DiMaio of Yonkers and Gerard (Yona) Bernacchia of Southport, CT. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren; Christopher and Craig DiMaio; Andrea Bernacchia; Jeremiah and Joshua Bernacchia and her adorable great granddaughter Alexas DiMaio; her nephews Anthony (Kelly) Bernacchia and James (Debby) Moen and a special niece Allison Moen who took care of Carol; and her daughter-in-law Robin Bernacchia and her brother-in-law Arthur (June) Bernacchia and their families and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol was predeceased by her son George A. Bernacchia III who died in 2008, and her 3 brothers James, Raymond and William Moen. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday March 11th from 9am to 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Christ the King Church on Friday at 11am. Entombment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
