

Catherine (nee Macko) Fenyo of Yonkers passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 after a short illness. She was born on September 8, 1928 to the late John and Anna (Kondravy) Macko Catherine or Kay as she was known was on of twelve children. Six Brothers predeceased her, Joseph, John, George, Peter, Michael and Andrew Macko and four sisters Helen Sommers, Anna Dundas, Mary Sakala and Margaret Petraschuk. One surviving sister, Mildred Polsik (Louis) of Albany, NY. Catherine is also survived by two children, a daughter Karen York (John) of Peekskill, NY and son John Fenyo (Gail) of Maricopa, AZ. She has four grandchildren, Kari Ann Matera, Michael York, Alexander and Benjamin Fenyo. Also survived by eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Catherine graduated from Commerce High School in 1946. She was a stay at home mother during most of her children’s lives. She was a member of the Mothers Guild at St. Michael’s School where her children attended. She assisted in making school lunches and participated in fundraisers for the school and church. After returning to the workforce she was a secretary in Phelps Dodge Cable & Wire and then worked at Polychrome Corp. After retiring she volunteered as a parish secretary for St. Michael’s where she was a parishioner. Catherine or Kay as her friends called her was a member of the Golden Agers at her parish and Charles Cola Center in Yonkers. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo at the Senior Centers. She went on bus trips to casinos as well as travelling with friends and family. Especially loved her yearly trip to Lake George. She married Michael Fenyo on May 20 1950 at St. Nicholas of Myra Church. He predeceased her on March 7, 1978. Catherine always had a smile on her face and willing to help anyone. She was a quiet yet happy person, generous and very loved by all that knew her. She truly will be missed. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made in her name to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 20 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY, 10703 or the American Heart Foundation. Due to the corona virus pandemic services will be private. A memorial service will be held in her honor at a future date.
