Catherine Zaleski

YONKERS - Catherine Zaleski. She was born to the late Michael and Mary (Obuch) Shutowich on February 1, 1919 and her 100 year journey on earth ended on July 11,2019 in her home. Catherine graduated from Commerce High School. She was employed as an Inventory Control Clerk. She was also a receptionist and bookkeeper for several doctors. She was very active in St. Michael’s Golden Agers. She planned and took care of all the social activities, overnight trips, as well as monthly trips to Atlantic City. Her hobbies included baking and decorating cakes for all occasions, especially the doll cakes. She enjoyed sewing. Catherine married Walter Vincent Zaleski on September 21,1946. Walter died on March 10th, 2006,he was a fire captain for the City of Yonkers. They Shared 60 years of life together; travelled all through Europe and most of the United States. They cruised many times in the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas. She was a Godmother to Darlene Sokol, Donna Tocco, and Susan Matey, who was like her daughter. Her dear friends include Joan Yozzo, Rosemary Greibesland, and the late Rosemary Fowler. Catherine is survived by nephews Ronald Patrick; Edward Federoff; Dennis Slutak, wife Lanna and children Dennis, wife Erin, David, wife Glory, and Debbie;Robert Lagoyda,wife Becca and children Dashiell and Jasper. Nieces: Joan Cahill, husband Scott; Mary J. Slutak; Rosemarie Slutak and daughters Allyson, Amy Karlsson, husband David, Jennifer, and Dr. Jill; Helen Denz and daughters Tamara Laub, husband Don and Megan Glenn, husband David; 8 Great Great nieces and nephews. Catherine was predeceased by brothers Peter and Samuel; sisters Helen Patrick and husband Michael; Josephine Vince and husband Frank; Rose Slutak and husband Victor;Sally Lagoyda and husband Nicholas; sister-in-law Helen Zaleska and Estella Federoff and husband Anthony; and nephew Stephen Slutak. She is the last of the Shutowich Family. Her home was open house to everyone. She did the entertaining for family affairs and all holidays. All were welcomed!

A visitation for Catherine will be held Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703. A visitation will occur Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703. A divine liturgy will occur Friday, July 19, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.,at St. Michael's Ukrainian Church 21 Shonnard Pl. Yonkers, NY. An entombment will occur Friday, July 19, 2019 at Mt. Hope Cemetery 1 SAW MILL RIVER RD, HASTINGS ON HUDS, New York 10706-3612. .
