.Celso Hernandez of Yonkers died on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at age 89. Born on February 8, 1927 in Puerto Rico where he was raised and educated and came to America at age 18. Mr. Hernandez was a chef at the Parker-Meridian Hotel in New York City for over forty years and retired in 1994. On September 1, 1951 he married Carmen Pizarro in St. Joseph’s Church in the Bronx, she died in 2006. Celso belonged to Local # 6; the Hotel and Restaurant Union in N.Y.C. He is survived by his daughter Yolanda (Caesar) Gonzalez of Yonkers and his granddaughter Stephanie. He is also survived by 5 siblings in Puerto Rico. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m. Committal service at Ferncliff Chapel.
