

Doris Christine Lacklain born in Farmville, Va. on October 16, 1930 to Mamie Ruth Marshall and Preston Thomas Lacklain, was brought to Yonkers, NY a month later. She attended Yonkers schools and graduated from Yonkers High School. She married Sylvester Wendell Brown, from the marriage four children were born Lloyd, Sylvia, Darrell and Wanda, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Doris has been a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church since she was a child; Pastor John L. Jenkins taught her Sunday school under Deacon Jessie Fields, Superintendent of Sunday School, she was in the gospel choir. Doris organized the nurses unit under Deacon Joseph Smalls and was a medical and surgical technician at Yonkers General Hospital for 30 years under Dr. Oppenheimer administrator and Mrs. Edna Cleary director of nursing who had a great concern for all her employees and respect. Doris loved her family, her children and to get an education and be able to help others in life and always put God as there leader and he will carry them through. She taught them about Jesus and his love she brought them to church she didn’t send them; they took part in the Sunday school, choir and ushers and married in Mt. Carmel. Now she is at peace knowing she done all she could do for her family and others the only child herself she wanted others to be blessed as she was, Psalm 121 was her favorite, Sorry was to hold God’s unchanging hands until we meet again with Jesus. “The journey was worth it all” she would say. Visiting hours will be on Monday November 28, 2016 from 7 to 9pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday November 29th at 11am. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
