

Douglas James Kozar, age 23, was killed tragically on Saturday October 30, 2010 in Tampa Florida by a local Dentist, who was arrested for drunk driving. Doug was a pedestrian leaving work when struck from behind, killing both him and a co-worker. Born on July 8, 1987 to Russell and Kathleen (Kokinchak) Kozar in Yonkers where he attended St. Matthew’s Grade School, Furnace Woods and Blue Mountain Middle School, graduating from Hendrik Hudson High School and University of Tampa where he received his B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business Administration. Douglas was working as a catering associate for the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Tampa Florida at the time of the accident. He was an avid fisherman, going any opportunity he could get. Besides his parents Russell and Kathleen Kozar of Cortlandt Manor, he is survived by his brother Matthew William Kozar of Las Vegas, his paternal grandparents Rev. Elias and Anna Kozar (St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church). He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents William and Rose (Wirchanski) Kokinchak. Doug was the nephew of Paul (Joan) Kozar of Cape Cod, Lawrence (Patti) Kozar of Congers and Robert Kokinchak. He is also survived by several cousins and friends. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday November 3rd from 2-9pm. A Mass Christian Burial will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church on Thursday November 4th at 10am.
