

Edward M. Potanovic (Ret. Lt. YFD) died on Saturday March 5, 2011 in Pawling, NY at age 78. He was born on June 2, 1932 to John and Mary (Manick) Potanovic in Yonkers where he was raised and graduated from St. Joseph’s and Saunders HS. Mr. Potanovic was a retired Yonkers Fire Lieutenant having served the city for over 35 years, retiring in 1991. He was promoted to Lt. in 1976 and stationed mainly at Engine #11. Edward was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korea from 1953 to 1955 and received the Korean Service Award, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and the United Nations Service Medal. On July 27, 1957 he married Harriet Smith in St. Mary’s Church in the Bronx, she died in 1999. While living in Pawling he was a parishioner of St, John’s Parish and a member of N.Y. State Police/Fire Retirees. He enjoyed his fishing, photography and arts and crafts. He is survived by his 4 children Raymond (Vanessa) of Pound Ridge, Kathleen Marcin of Monroe, Edward of Holmes, NY and Thomas (Mary) of Princetown, NY. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren Siobhan, Francis, Alexandria, Edward, Harrison and Mackenzie; his brothers John, George and Frank Potanovic and his sisters Ann Fego, Eleanor Mitchell and Mary Pelligrino and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by 2 sons Timothy in 1981 and Robert in 1985 and his brother Joseph. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Thursday March 10 at 10am. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
