

Eileen was born in Medford, MA to the late Harold and Helen Glynn. The Glynn family moved to Yonkers in the late 1930s. While still in grade school, Eileen became friends with Sabina Ball (now Schmidt), and that friendship with Bina continued right up until Eileen’s passing. Eileen graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers in 1947. After graduation. Eileen worked in advertising on Wall Street.
On May 5, 1951, Eileen married Harold (“Happy”) Powers (Retired YPD) in St. Joseph’s Church in Yonkers. Harold passed away on January 3, 1999.
Eileen was mother to Brian (Barbara) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, Kathleen (William Hangac) of Cave Creek, AZ, Patricia of Yonkers, NY, Kevin (Patty Rosborough) of Mahopac, NY, Sean of Delray Beach, FL, Claire of Newton, MA and Timothy (Mary Ellen O’Brien) of Southbury, CT. Her daughter, Janice, predeceased Eileen on April 12, 2021. Eileen had ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Eileen was also predeceased by her sisters Rita and Helen and her twin brothers, Robert and Francis.
Eileen was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers since moving back to Yonkers in 1958. At Sacred Heart, Eileen was a long-time member of the Third Order/Secular Franciscans and of the Fr. Solanus Casey Guild. Eileen also was employed for a number of years as an administrative assistant for the Secular Franciscans at Sacred Heart. Eileen had deep friendships with the late Fr. Dan Egan, the late Fr. Chris Dietrich and the late Brother Roger DeGuire, often including them in family and holiday dinners.
Eileen had large and varied interests. She loved metal detecting, especially on Cape Cod. She loved reading and her interests included biographies and history. Eileen enjoyed calligraphy and doing handwriting analysis. Other interests include crocheting, bird watching and other various activities. Eileen was also a long-time member of the Amackassin Club.
Eileen loved her yearly trips to Eastham on Cape Cod, where the family got together with the extended Glynn Family. Watching sunsets on Cape Cod Bay was one of Eileen’s favorite pastimes.
Eileen’s family, her friends and her faith were the most important things to her. She enjoyed family get-togethers and hosted an annual holiday party which included her numerous nephews and nieces, the Smiths. Eileen had long-term friendships with June, Anne, Alice and Doris.
Visiting hours for Eileen will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY 10703. Final disposition is private.
