Evelyn DeSanto McCarthy

Evelyn DeSanto McCarthy, 88, of Lyme, NH, formerly of Yonkers and Hastings-on-Hudson NY, died Monday March 16, 2015. She was born in Bronx, New York in 1927 to Anna Gross and Maurice DeSanto. Evelyn has spent the last 25 years living on her beloved Far Away Farm in Lyme, New Hampshire with the love of her life, William Cranston, who survives her.

In addition to her son, Keith Howard McCarthy, Evelyn was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Frank and Maurice DeSanto.

She is survived by her daughters Kathi McCarthy of Yonkers, NY, Kristine Macdonald and her husband Andrew of Poughquag, NY and Kim Broe and her husband Patrick of Colliersville, NY.

She leaves grandchildren Sara, P.J. Goldfeder and wife Ann, Lauren O’Connell and husband Christopher, Emily Gibson and husband Will, Keith Macdonald and wife Lisa, Jordan Broe and wife Nicole, Marissa Broe and fiance Mike Harrington, and Daniel Broe and partner Jenaye Sutton. She also leaves ten great grandchildren.

Evelyn is also survived by her extended family, the Cranston Family: Patricia, Kenneth and Diane, Rob and Martha, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Evelyn was a mother and homemaker extraordinaire. She was talented, loving and tireless in raising her family. Her legacy is in all we cook, sew, or create. Her children and grandchildren delight in perfecting one of her recipes and her artistic and creative talents are demonstrated through three generations. She loved gardening and harvesting each Fall.

She will be remembered most of all for her wit and humor. Anyone who ever met her has a funny story to tell. Memories of her will be joyous and full.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Terrace for their excellent and loving care of Evelyn over the last few months of her life. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday March 20th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Christ The King Church on Saturday March 21st at 11am. Cremation is private.
