Carolyn graduated with honors from Charles E. Gorton High School in 1948, working two summers at Lutherland in Pocono Pines, PA, as a recreation director and guide. She worked for The New Yorker Magazine for 23 years, first as a research clerk and then as executive secretary to the publisher, rubbing shoulders with such legendary American writers as E.B. White and James Thurber. She then entered the world of design at West Point Pepperell as the consumer affairs manager. After retiring from West Point Pepperell, she worked part-time for Historic Hudson Valley at the Philipsburg Manor gift shop, as a guide at Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate, and as a guide at the Union Church of Pocantico Hills, near Sleepy Hollow. She worked until she was 86 years old. Carolyn was a member of the Salvation Army's Advocacy Council, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and the Steuben Society. Carolyn's great love was music. She sang her first solo in kindergarten and went on to sing in high school and church. Carolyn was the glue that held her extensive family together.
