Florence Howard, age 98, a life-long resident of Yonkers, New York passed away on Friday February 15, 2019. Florence was born April 22, 1920 to Mary Murphy and Benjamin Murphy. Florence graduated from the Monroe Business Institute in the Bronx. She went on to work for the Yonkers Board of Education as a Senior Typist.
Florence was involved in her community in many facets. She was a chaplain of Hollow Tenants Association, a Red Cross Volunteer of over 20 years, & a volunteer at Sans Souci Nursing home for over 16 years. She was very involved in her parish, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, as a sacristian, participant in the parish council, and the Sodality of Our Lady. Her hobbies included both baking and embroidery.
Florence is survived by her son Bob Kivel (Dot) of Dunn, NC, son Richard Kivel (Mary) of Ft. Myers, FL, son Edward Kivel of Tampa, FL, son Jim Kivel (Josie) of Edison, NJ, daughter Maureen Cross of Beacon, NY, and daughter Kathleen Kivel of Palm Coast, FL. Florence is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Florence was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Kivel; her second husband James Howard; brother Ben Murphy; sister Rita Joseph; brother William Murphy; son Timothy Kivel, grand daughter Nancy Kivel Tyndall; great-grand-daughter Morgan Seaman; great-grand-daughter Meaghan Murphy; great-grandson Christopher Kivel; & father Benjamin Murphy and mother Mary Murphy.
There will be visitation on Saturday, February 23rd from 8 am to 10 am at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Yonkers. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Yonkers, NY
