

Florence Maleska, 91, formerly of Stratton Street , Yonkers passed away on Tuesday, April 21 in Hebron, NH where she had been cared for so lovingly by her daughter, Carol, in recent years. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond A. Maleska to whom she was married for 52 years.
Born in Yonkers, NY to Martin and Emma Sivco on September 22, 1923, Florence was the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Commerce High School after studying accounting and worked as a bookkeeper at Ward Leonard Electric Company during WWII. Later, she work as a Junior Accountant for the City of Yonkers School Department from 1965 – 1985.
Florence was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church all of her life. She served in the Sodality of Mary and was also the corresponding secretary to the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association for many years.
Florence loved to travel and would take annual trips with her husband, Ray, and their close friends. She and Ray also spent a great deal of summer time at “Neva Dunn”, their vacation house on Lake Canadarago in Richfield Springs, NY.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Carol Maleska of Hebron, NH and her child, June, and Susan Hodgdon and her husband, Ronald, of Foxboro, MA.
In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren: David Hodgdon and his wife, Lisa; Matthew Hodgdon, and his wife, Sandra; Thomas Hodgdon and his wife, Sonya; and Kathryn Hodgdon Shah and her husband, Ruchir and 8 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her much pleasure and pride. Her only surviving sibling is her sister, Helen Syso, of Dobbs Ferry, NY.
She will always be remembered as Aunt Flos by her many nieces and nephews whom she lovingly enjoyed sharing many holidays and visits and hours of conversation.
Florence will always be remembered for her love of family, generous heart and great sense of humor. She had an amazing ability for baking and cherished the Slavic Holiday traditions at Christmas and Easter.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, April 24 at The Whelan and Ball Funeral Home on 168 Park Street, Yonkers, NY 10703 from 4 pm – 8 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 9:30 am at Most Holy Trinity Church followed by a burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Florence’s memory to The Sisters of St. Cyril and Methodius; Villa Sacred Heart; 580 Railroad St., Danville, PA 17821, if desired.
