Fr. Theodosius [baptized Richard] was born to John Corley and Pauline Valentovic-Corley on March 5, 1947, in the Bronx, NY.
He attended Our Lady Queen of Angels Grade School in Harlem [1953-1961] and St. Mary’s High School Seminary, Garrison, NY [1961-1965].
Richard entered the Capuchin Friars on August 31, 1965, in Milton, MA, and received the name Theodosius. He professed simple vows on September 1, 1966, at St. Anthony Friary in Hudson, NH, and graduated in 1970 with a BA in Philosophy. Fr. Ted attended St. Joseph Seminary, Yonkers, NY [1971-72] and the Maryknoll School of Theology, Ossining, NY, and received a Master’s in Divinity [1974]. Father was ordained to the priesthood on May 11, 1974.
Fr. Ted served in a variety of ministries, including St. Pius X, Middletown, CT, as an associate pastor [1994-1996 and 2005-06], vocation recruiter [1977-78], and he enjoyed teaching at Sacred Heart High School, Yonkers, NY [1978-1983].
For many years, Fr. Ted ministered as a Catholic Hospital Chaplain at Grasslands Hospital, Valhalla, NY [1976-1977]; Norwalk Hospital, Stamford, CT [1984-1989]; St. Joseph Hospital, Yonkers, NY [1983-84 and 2011-2018].
Fr. Ted served the parochial communities of St. Joseph, Portland, ME, as a parochial vicar [1990-93] and Guardian and Pastor [1993-2002]; Sacred Heart, Yonkers, NY, as a parochial vicar [2002-2005]; and St. Peter, Rutland, VT, as pastor and guardian [2006-2011].
Needing to address his health issues, Fr. Ted was transferred to St. Clare Friary, our senior friar residence, in 2018, where he remained until his death.
Father was survived by his brother-in-law, Mr. John Marietta, two nieces, and several other family members.
A wake will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Clare Friary, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY 10703. The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Province of St. Mary in memory of Fr. Theodosius Corley in support of the continued good works of the Capuchin Franciscan friars.
