

Fred A. Basli, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Monday May 7, 2012 at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He was 79 years old. He was born on November 25, 1932 to James and Loretta DeAnellis Basli in Yonkers where he was raised and educated. He attended Roosevelt High School where he played football on the school team. Mr. Basli was a police officer for the City of Yonkers for twenty years until his retirement in 1984. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1949 to 1953 and was stationed in Camp Lejune, NC. Mr. Basli was a die-hard Giants fan and an avid football fan in general. He was also a Yankee fan. He married Linda Flood in Yonkers. She survives and lives in Falmouth, MA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Frederick Basli and his wife Dawn of Bridgewater, CT, one daughter, Carolyn Westhoff and her husband Troy of Ossining and one sister, Evelyn Basli of Yonkers. He is also survived by nine granddaughters, one grandson and four great granddaughters. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Anthony Basli. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Bartholomew’s Church on Friday May 11th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
