
George K. Abraham, a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Tuesday June 30, 2015 at St. John’s Riverside Hospital. He was 84 years old. He was born on February 20, 1931 to George and Genevieve Ashkar Abraham in Brooklyn. He was raised and educated in Jordan. Mr. Abraham was a self employed general contractor who ran the 259-261 Riverdale Realty Corporation in Yonkers for many years until his retirement in 2014. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Abraham was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Arabic American Sports Club. He enjoyed classical music and played several instruments including the harmonica, the clarinet, the accordion and the Arabic Guitar. On March 26, 1961, he married Leila Kayal in Tyre, Lebanon. She died on November 8, 1992. He then married his second wife, Jocanda Kayal on October 26, 1993 in Tyre, Lebanon. Mrs. Abraham survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joseph, James and Anthony Abraham all of Yonkers, one daughter, Rita Abraham of Yonkers and one sister, Mary Richards of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son, George, Jr., a brother, Jawdat Abraham and a sister, Georgette Dillan. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church on Friday July 3rd at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
