

George Chmara, 88, of Yonkers, N.Y., passed on to our Lord Jesus on August 26, 2011. He was born in New York, N.Y. on August 11, 1923 to parents Gabriel and Pauline (Agress) Chmara. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Chmara is survived by his wife of 62 years, Stella (Lazuk) Chmara, two daughters, Arlene Squazzo of Cary, IL and Janet Chmara of Yonkers, three grandchildren, Robert Spera, Kelley Squazzo and Jessica Squazzo Poore and one great granddaughter, Brittany Spera. Mr. Chmara was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army Engineers in the European Theatre of Operations. He was employed by General Motors in Tarrytown, N.Y. and retired after 33 years. He was a member of the UAW Local 664. Mr. Chmara was an active member of St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church in Yonkers for many years, serving in numerous aspects of parish life. He will be remembered for his generous heart and devotion to family. Memorial visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday September 18th from 2-5 PM. Funeral Service will be held at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 Lyon Place, White Plains, N.Y. 10601.
