Graham John McLachlan

Born in Yonkers on May 11, 1950, he was the son of William and Helen (Graham) McLachlan, and was raised and educated in his hometown, graduating from Gorton High School.

Throughout his life, Graham was known as a devoted and beloved presence—hard-working in his daily responsibilities, kind-hearted in his dealings with others, and thoughtful in the steady care he showed to those around him.

Graham worked as a toll collector for the New York State Thruway Authority at the Tappen Zee Bridge, serving the public with reliability and pride until his retirement in 2012. He also served his country in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 as a Private First Class, stationed in Germany, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

On May 15, 2010, Graham married Laura Porzio in Oneonta, N.Y. Mrs. Porzio survives and lives in Yonkers. He is also survived by his daughter, Kristen McLachlan of upstate New York; his brother, Richard McLachlan of Schenectady, N.Y.; a niece Janice and two nephews, Bryan and Christopher.

A man of familiar joys and loyal enthusiasms, Graham enjoyed going to Empire City Casino, watching horse racing, and following the teams he loved—especially as a die hard Cowboy football fan and a N.Y. Met baseball fan.

Graham was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers, where his faith and quiet commitment were part of the life he built and the community he valued.

A memorial mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y. 10703 at a later date to be announced.
