

Helen Ercole (nee Wall), a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She was 91 years old. She was born on July 19, 1922 to Patrick and Nellie Burns Wall in Yonkers where she was raised and educated attending local schools. Mrs. Ercole was a weaver for the Alexander Smith Carpet Shop for several years prior to their closing. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and most recently of St. Columba’s Church in Hopewell Junction. She enjoyed dancing. “She loved her family and cherished her grandchildren” her family said. On July 14, 1951, she married her loving husband, Anthony Ercole in St. Joseph’s Church in Yonkers. Mr. Ercole died in 1993. Survivors include three sons, Tony Ercole and his wife Donna of Hopewell Junction, Frank Ercole of Mahopac and John Ercole and his wife Joanne of Mahopac and one sister, Veronica “Ronnie” Wall. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Anthony, Robert, John and Laura. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward “Buddy” and Matthew Wall and five sisters, Mary Zaremba, Margaret Yavorsky, Catherine “Patsy” Tiedemann, Theresa Lobbe and Alice Contrino. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 4 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Monday March 24th at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
