Helen A Vocasek

June 30, 1919September 28, 2020

Helen Ann Vocasek (nee Havlin) 101, beloved wife of the late Anthony, died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

She was born to Mary and Frank Havlin on 6/30/1919 in the Yorkville neighborhood in NYC, what was considered the hub of Czech family life. Predeceased by brothers Frank and Joseph and her sister Amy Johann. Helen was married to Anthony Vocasek on 9/11/43. She is survived by her daughters Ellen (Joseph) Jamison, and Marianne (Greg) Doerr She was a devoted grandmother to Lauren (Bobby) Huber , Kristen (Christopher) Williams, Virgina (Carmine) Lofaro and Geoff Doerr. Great grandmother to Caitlin Huber, fiancée Jack Reisman, Steven Huber (Dynalee) Brandon, Mallory, Morgan, Courtney, Kayla, Angelo and Lucy. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. As a young bride, she cared for her mom, had her first child and helped to support her family all while her husband was away fighting in the pacific during WWII. After several years as a stay at home mom, Helen returned to work in 1962 at SJRH, as a Medical Record clerk and would remain until 1987 retiring as the Director of the Department. Those that worked for or with her remember her as a compassionate boss and for some, a second mother. Soon after retirement, Helen returned to SJRH as a volunteer and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Auxiliary. Helens greatest treasure was her family, being most proud of her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, never missing an event or competition they were involved in. She enjoyed traveling with her family and vacationed often in the Adirondacks. Helen will be remembered for her loving ways, her commitment to her family, her contagious smile and her ability to find happiness in the smallest things, not to mention an occasional “Bud lite”.

The family would like to thank her long time physician Dr. Thomas Fiorentino and the Hospice nurses and staff at Northwell Health for their concern and loving care. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John's Riverside Hospital, Hospice of Westchester and Putnam (Northwell Health) or Ronald McDonald House at WMC.
