

James J. Hannigan, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died on August 29, 2019 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, NY. He was a longtime resident of Yonkers until he retired to Schoharie County. Jim was born on June 9, 1932 to James Hannigan and Kathryn Olive Hannigan. He attended school in Stony Point in Rockland County. After graduation he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He had a successful career with Metro North as a Rail Line Foreman. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Arline Dunford Hannigan. He is survived by 7 children; Cher (Gary) Brundage, Kathleen (John) Liszewski, Mary (Edward) Benes, Nancy (Michael) Miksad, Patricia (Dave) Alberts, James Hannigan and Ellen Hannigan. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and numerous niece and nephews. He is predeceased by 1 brother, Daniel Hannigan, 1 sister, Patricia Gault, 1 granddaughter, Sarah Liszewski, 1 grandson, Jason Barrows, and 1 great-granddaughter, Jamie Bellor. He was a proud member of the American Legion in Stamford NY and the Senior Center in Jefferson, NY. Jim had a quick wit, loved a good joke and an Irish tale, he will be missed by all who loved him. Visitation for James will be held Monday, September 2, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, New York 10703. A visitation will occur Tuesday, September 3, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, September 4, from 10:00 AM to 10:40 AM at Christ The King RC Church, 740 N. Broadway, Yonkers, New York 10701. A commital will occur Wednesday, September 4, 11:30 AM at Ferncliff Crematory, 284 Secor Road, Hartsdale, New York 10530.
