James E. Papacena Jr.

James Edward Papacena, Jr. (born May 24, 1925 :age 93 yrs) passed away peacefully, surrounded by his 3 children, on Wednesday: September 12, 2018.

He was a resident of The Grove at Valhalla, Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife & childhood sweetheart , Alice, in 2016. September 13, 2018 would have been their 74th wedding anniversary. Jim was the ever proud parent of Susan L. Mark (William Jr.), Judith L. DeBlasio (John) and James P. Papacena (Marie) as well as beloved "POPPY" to his 6 grandchildren. Tracey Mark Frederick (Grant), William W. Mark, III (Kerri), James J. Papacena (Liza), Matthew J. DeBlasio (Rachel), Ashley E. Terrelonge (Chris) and Amanda B. DeBlasio. Poppy was the everproud grandfather of 6 college graduates who were the lights of his life. Jim was also "Great-Grandfather Poppy" to Taylor, Grayson, Corinne, Everett, Carissa, Emerson, Zoey, Leah, and Riley. Jim was a proud patriot and one of the few surviving U.S Veterans of World War II "The Battle of the Bulge" as a young man. He spent his adult career on Wall Street until his retirement at age 70 yrs. old. His greatest enjoyment was being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Singing and dancing to Frank Sinatra and playing with his devoted pal "JAX" his (Jack Russell Terrier). Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday: September 18, 2018 @ 11am at Annunciation R.C. Church in Crestwood, New York, followed by internment at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA in Jim's honor. A very special THANK YOU and Appreciation to the loving staff at the GROVE, the nurses, and the caregivers who were kind and caring to our father.
