
Jane McConville, a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Friday April 8, 2011 at the Andrus Home in Hastings on Hudson. She was 82 years old. She was born on October 25, 1928 to Daniel and Frances (Hand) McConville in Ogdensburg, N.Y. where she was raised and educated. She attended the College of New Rochelle for two years and the Columbia University School of Nursing from which she graduated with her nursing degree in 1951. Miss McConville was the Director of Nursing at the Columbia Presbyterian Babies Hospital for over twenty five years. She then worked for St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Queens for six or seven years until her retirement in 1992 and she was a volunteer at St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers for ten years. Miss McConville was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the choir for twenty five years. She was also a member of the Alumni Association of the Columbia University School of Nursing. She enjoyed sewing for Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne and she cooked and served food to the homeless. Miss McConville is survived by her very special friend, Dolores Jackson of Yonkers and some distant cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel McConville, Jr. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Monday 2-4 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday April 12th at 11 AM. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
