

She was born and raised in Yonkers, New York and attended Sacred Heart High School. Janice married Douglas McKirgan on September 8, 1951. He predeceased her in 1980. Together they raised their family in Yonkers.
Janice was devoted to her family of six children - Sheri Dietz (Thomas), Emmie Lapelosa, Doug McKirgan, Janice Frank (Maurice), Leslie Blute (Kevin), and Paul McKirgan (Bea), her 14 grandchildren- Melissa, Jessica, Allison, Rachel, Kat, Anthony, Michael, Lauren, Samantha, Jake, Ryan, Mandy, Leah, and Carly, and five great-grandchildren - Caroline, Charlie, Emma, Christopher, and Adelyn.
As an active volunteer in the community, Janice participated in the Rosary Altar Society at Christ the King Church where she was a parishioner, and devoted a lot of her time to Rosedale, a program for young women in the Bronx. Additionally, she served as a supernumerary of Opus Dei for over 50 years.
Janice was proud to serve her community beginning in 1986 as a councilwoman. She took this position seriously, and was honored to have the opportunity to represent her constituents.
She had a multitude of hobbies; she loved playing cards and board games with her family and friends, while also taking pleasure in crafts, such as knitting.
She was proud of her Slovak heritage. Nothing made her happier than to enjoy a feast consisting of pierogi, kielbasa, and sauerkraut.
Janice was a friend to all who met her, and will always be remembered for her warm and compassionate manner. Whether meeting her for the first time or knowing her personally, her smile always made one feel welcome and accepted.

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 3-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Monday October 30th at 10am. Interment will follow at St' Joseph Cemetery.
