
Jeanne A. Cairns (nee Palmerton), a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday September 9, 2011 at the Hebrew Hospital Home of Westchester in Valhalla. She was 89 years old. She was born on March 12, 1922 to George C. and Mary F. Hennessey Palmerton in Yonkers where she was raised and educated graduating from Commerce High School. Mrs. Cairns was a longtime employee for NY Telephone Co. in Yonkers where she worked as an operator. She was a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Church and was a member of the Supreme Emblem Club (the female division of the Elks). She enjoyed singing, dancing and musicals and she was extremely devoted to her family. On November 23, 1946, she married her loving husband former Yonkers Police Lieutenant William D. Cairns in St. Joseph’s Church. He died on September 23, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Edward S. Cairns and his wife Lisa of Greenland, NH and Donald W. Cairns and his wife Carol of Manassas, VA, one brother George C. Palmerton and his wife Ann of Yonkers and one sister Margaret T. Brundage of Yonkers. She is also survived by her granddaughter Katherine. She was predeceased by one brother John F. Palmerton and four sisters Agnes Sullivan, Frances Wilcheck, Maryanne Marietta and Mary Rita Kimmey. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 2-5 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Monday September 12th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
