Born on May 13, 1960, to Barbara and Joseph DeLasho, of the DeLasho Family Bakery, Joan was a lifelong resident of Yonkers. She graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry in 1978 and went on to earn a business degree from The Berkley School of Business in 1980.
Joan began her professional journey at Brucci Limited, where she worked for many years before continuing her career at The Kelly Agency of Mamaroneck. She retired in 2014, leaving behind colleagues who deeply respected her work ethic and warm personality.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Joseph DeLasho. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenny, step-sons Scott and James, her brothers Ken and Joe (Fun Joe), along with their families; and a large extended family of cousins, and dear friends who will miss her deeply - including her Tuesday night dinner companion, Denise Landy, Joan’s sisterly cousin, Teresa (Tre) Valentine, who called Joan every night with silly talk and crazy antics, her dear, loving, and incredibly supportive and caring sister-in-law, Linda DeLasho, who along with Ken’s son James, were a source of strength and support to Kenny and Joan as they navigated this difficult period and ultimately brought Joan home.
In 2001, after “kissing a few frogs,” Joan found her prince in Kenny. The couple shared a loving bond that culminated in a memorable proposal at Ken’s retirement party from the Yonkers Fire Department. They were married on August 7, 2004 for 20 wonderful years.
Joan delighted in hosting large family & holiday dinners, spending sunny days at the beach, and indulging her passion for shopping—always following her signature motto: go early, walk fast, and don't stop to eat. Her joy was magnified by the presence of her beloved nieces and nephews, Joseph (Marisa), Cody, Nicole, and Carson, for whom she was a tireless supporter at sports games, dance recitals, art shows, and school events.
Quiet by nature but strong in spirit, Joan faced her illness with grace, dignity, and determination. She was easy to love and left an indelible mark on all who knew her, especially Kenny.
Joanie was Ken’s love and beloved sweetie. His enduring attention, presence, devotion to her care, and loving support filled Joan’s days with great comfort. He was a source of strength for Joan and got her through the most difficult times. Whenever Joanie called Ken, he was always there to ease her mind. This special love and devotion has inspired us all.
Joan will live on in our hearts and memories. AND “Don’t Stop Believin”...Joanie’s dancing in heaven.
Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday from 3-7pm. Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home on Saturday April 3rd at 11am. Final disposition is private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
