

John Longbucco of Yonkers of passed away peacefully on January 24, 2013 at the age of 94. He was born May 13, 1918 to Angelo and Raefalea (nee Capalabo) Longbucco in Yonkers where he was raised and lived all his life. He graduated from Saunders High School. Beloved husband of the late Lilllian (Barna) Longbucco. They were married on February 20, 1944. She predeceased him on January 14, 2008. He is predeceased by his four brothers, Nat, Tony, Frank and Louis and two sisters Antoinette Pagano and Camella Benvenito. He is survived by his brother James and nieces and nephews Arthur Pagano, Madeline Salustri, Joan Huxta, Susan Butler, Frank Longbucco, Anthony Longbucco, Louis Longbucco, Rae Craft, Ralph Benvenito, Barbara Campbell, Jim Longbucco, Fr. John Longbucco, Janet Longbucco and Ralph Longbucco. He is predeceased by his niece Arlene Longbucco and nephew Rick Longbucco. He is also survived by numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. John worked for the Otis Elevator Company in Yonkers as a tool and die maker for forty one years until retiring in 1980. He was a Parishioner of Christ the King Church and a member of the Otis Retirees. He was called “Uncle John” or just plain “Uncle” by everyone who knew him, including his friends, neighbors and relatives. An avid out doorsman , he loved hunting and fishing. He raised and trained his hunting dogs and tied flies for fly fishing which were a small part of his hobbies. He was a gardener who enjoyed planting and growing his vegetables and flowers, sharing them with eveyone (neighbors, friends and relatives alike). He also raised bees for their honey and would be out in the woods looking for mushrooms in the Spring and Fall. “Uncle John” had great family values and every year would host a family reunion in his back yard. He was a man of numerous talents who enjoyed life, family friends and people in general. “Uncle” will be greatly missed and will leave a void in the lives of many. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 27th at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial on Monday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
