John J. O'donnell

John J. O’Donnell, formerly of Yonkers died on Wednesday October 26, 2011 at Stony Brook Hospital at age 90. He was born on June 11, 1921 to John and Beatrice (Van Tassell) in Peekskill, NY. Mr. O’Donnell worked as an Engineer for Otis Elevator Company for over 40 years until he retired in 1985. On February 24, 1946 he married Mary “Marie” Cunniff in St. John the Baptist Church, she died in 1994. John was also a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church; a World War II Marine, Sitting Director of the 1st Marine Division Association and former Chairman of their Finance Committee. He was Honorably Discharged as a Full Colonel. He is survived by his daughter Karen (Edward) McLaughlin of East Norwich, NY and his grandson Kyle and 2 sisters Barbara Howley and Mary Wenger. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas O’Donnell. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday from 6-9pm ONLY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Mary’s Church (South Broadway) on Saturday October 29th at 10:45am. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
