Joseph A. Battista, of Yonkers, died on Monday, June 4, 2018 at age 91.

He was born on January 23, 1927 to Albidio “Benny” and Donatella Battista in Mount Vernon, NY. Mr. Battista was one of the owners of Benny’s & Sons Service Station on Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers for over 35 years. Joe also worked as a supervisor in the transportation department for the Journal News for many years. He married Elena Ulisse in 1948. She died in 1980. Mr. Battista was an avid hunter. Joe proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was also President of the Hollows AC Club and Past Commander and Corporation President of VFW Post 1666 He is survived by his children, Dee Powers, Joseph Battista Jr., Bennet Battista, and Dia Ramos, 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Battista in 1997. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Daria Russo in 1999. He will also be greatly missed by his longtime companion of 37 years, Marilyn Trainor. Donations to Wounded Warriors will be appreciated. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Friday 9:30 am. Cremation at Ferncliff will follow Mass.
