He was born on February 15, 1933 to Joseph and Palma Filardi Massello in Yonkers where he was raised and educated, graduating from Yonkers High School in 1951. Mr. Massello was a truck driver for Teamster’s Local# 456 for forty years until his retirement in 1995. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1954. He was a private first class and served in the European Theatre. Mr. Massello was a longtime and devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and was a former Eucharistic Minister. He belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order of St. Francis from 1971 to 2005 and was a member of the Fr. Solanus Casey Guild at Sacred Heart. “Mr. Massello was a dear friend of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen when the archbishop was living in Yonkers during his Life is Worth Living series in the 1950’s.” He is survived by a niece, Teresa Arancio and a nephew, Paul Arancio. He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Massello and two sisters, Lorraine Arancio and Dorothy Fiorenza. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Friday January 22nd at 9:30am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations in his name may be made in the form of mass cards.
