Born on December 25, 1936, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Bolivar and Rosa Ruiz (née Barrera), Judy brought warmth and grace to everyone she met.
In 1963, Judy emigrated to New York City, and in 1964, she married Angelo Gregorio Velez. Together, they raised three children and built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Judy worked for over 30 years as a skilled sample maker in Manhattan's Garment Center, contributing her craftsmanship and dedication to the heart of the fashion industry.
At 38, Judy pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and returned to school. Although her studies were cut short by the birth of her youngest child, she embraced God’s greater plan with unwavering trust.
A devout Catholic, Judy’s deep love for Jesus Christ and steadfast devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary were the foundation of her life. She passed her faith on to her children and grandchildren, guiding them through example, prayer, and unconditional love.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Angelo, and her cherished son. She is survived by her daughters Linda Hicks and Shirley Lafond, and six grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy.
She found joy in travel, especially in visiting her family in Ecuador, and was happiest surrounded by those she loved.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and faithful servant of God. Her legacy lives on in the hearts she touched.
