
Julia K. Schnitta (nee Katonica) of Yonkers died on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at age 89. Born on March 28, 1924 to Andrew and Julia Katonica in Culver, Pennsylvania; moved to Yonkers and graduated from Commerce High School. Mrs. Schnitta worked as an instructor for New York Telephone Company in White Plains for over twenty five years; retiring in 1986. On September 22, 1951 she married Paul Schnitta in Emanuel Lutheran Church; he died in 1991. Julia was a World War II Navy Veteran serving as a nurse at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland for five years. She was a former member of the Polish Center, and was an avid traveler to Europe, Russia and cruises. She is survived by her two children; Paul (Suzanne) Schnitta of Harrison and Christine (Thomas) Quinn of Sherman, Ct., her three grandchildren; Brittney, Alexandra and Samantha, her brother Joseph and her sister Pauline Caputo. She was predeceased by two brothers John and Andrew Katonica. Visiting hours will be a the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 20th at 10:30 a.m. Interment Oakland Cemetery.
