Always loving, kind and approachable. Kenneth Sweeney, 79, of Antigua, died in Yonkers, New York on Thursday, November 2, 2023 and will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery (Hastings on Hdson)) on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11 am.
Ken was born in the Town of Parham on March 28, 1944 to James Sweeney and Albadore Grant. Raised by his loving grandfather and grandmother, Leonard (Tar Tar) and Annie (Da Da) Thomas and loved very much by Ms. Ruth growing up. He attended Parham School then Hill Secondary School after graduating he worked at Customs then emigrated to Saint Thomas, V. I. and then to New York where he worked at Consolidated Edison of New York while studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning at Fordham University. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Ken met his wife, Joan in 1977. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on September 7, 1985.
Ken was preceded in death by Joseph (brother), and is survived by his wife (Joan), sons (Jonathan, Kenneth II and Kriss), granddaughter (Nayanka), brothers (Conroy (m. to Cheryl), Eslee (m. to Gloria) and Kenneth), sisters (Sylvia, Joan, Judy and Christina), niece/nephews (Jamal, Chatresse, Sunita, Sarojini, Leonard, Leah, Laurie, Lelenie, Linette, Lucian, Lyndsey, Judith, Donna and Corey), cousins, many great-nieces/nephews and friends.
Ken was passionate about economics/business and cricket.
The wake will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 (168 Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10703) at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home from 5 pm to 8 pm. A graveside service will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery on Friday November 10th at 11am. The funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:30am.
