The Professor
January 5, 1949 – February 4, 2018
Lenward “Woody” Snead, 69, of Bronx, NY, died on February 4, 2018, at the Montefiore Medical Center, located in the Norwood section of the Bronx. Known as Lenny to many, he was born on January 5, 1949, in Yonkers, NY, where he attended and graduated from public schools. Lenny worked various jobs until being drafted and serving in Vietnam. Upon his return from the service, Lenny decided to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he concentrated on fashion and commercial illustration. He worked many years as a graphic artist for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Before his retirement as an art director for the same city agency, he returned to school, Lehman College, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art Education. Upon his retirement, Lenny started a not-for-profit art organization, Westchester Square Art Center, where he taught drawing and painting to many Bronx residents and volunteered his time until his unexpected death. Art, in its purest sense, the language of human expression, was Lenny’s heart and soul. Ever striving for a life of beauty and creativity, and sharing the wealth of such a life, was Lenny’s purpose and greatest accomplishment. Lenny was more than an instructor; he was a true friend and willing guide on a student’s path to new perception. All who had the privilege to have known him will genuinely miss his dedication and love.
