LOUISE JACKSON COLEMAN, affectionately known as “Weezy” to friends and family, was called home on Sunday, February 14, 2016, in the home of her daughter, Yvonne Coleman, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 9, 1930, in Pinewood, SC, to her loving late parents, Oliver & Jannie Jackson, Louise was educated in a small church school-like setting in South Carolina. In 1967, she was wed in holy matrimony to Major Coleman in Yonkers, NY, and worked for King’s Electronics for more than 40 years, until she retired.
Louise was a faithful and dedicated member of the Community Memorial Baptist Church in Yonkers, NY, where she served God as a choir member, usher (when the church was CME), feeding the homeless and in various other capacities in the ministry. In her spare time, when she wasn’t caring for her family, she loved to fish and spent much time cooking the fish she caught.
Louise was a humble, loving, caring person, a peacemaker of sorts, to her family and many loving friends, but her love for her husband, Major, and their 17 children and stepchildren was beyond words.
She was predeceased by her parents, Oliver & Jannie Jackson; 3 sons, Roosevelt, Larry & Anthony Williams; 1 grandson, Luther “Peanut” Coleman, III; 1 stepson, Carlton Coleman; and one son-in-law, Luther Gannie, Jr.
Louise leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 49 years, Major Coleman, Sr.; a brother, Sidney Jackson; 8 daughters, Shirley, Jannie, Gail, Thelma, Connie, Melissa, Yvonne & Margie; a son, Michael Coleman; 4 stepchildren, Totoo, Alvin, Major Jr. & Nancy; 2 nephews, Shaun & Shane; 30 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a longtime “boyfriend”, Calvin Pinckney; and a host of relatives and friends.
Louise was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her and loved her. She will be missed by all.
Visiting hours will be at the Community Memorial Baptist Church, 132 Waverly St., Yonkers, N.Y. on Monday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral service will take place in the Community Memorial Baptist Church on Tuesday February 23rd at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
