Lucy Maiaro

Lucy Maiaro (nee Sparno) of Yonkers died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at age 98. Born on December 7, 1914 to Joseph and Concetta Sparno in the Bronx and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She worked as a Seamstress for the Ladies Garment Union for over twenty years. On May 20, 1933 she married Giacomo Maiaro in Sacred Heart Church, he died in 1978. Lucy was a Parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, and was involved with the Rosary Altar Society and the St. Francis Guild. She is survived by her three sons, Robert (Kathleen) of Tuckahoe, Richard (Aura) of Mt. Vernon and Dennis (Julia) of Pinebush. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Josephine Mooney and three brothers Anthony, John and Thomas Sparno. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be in Sacred Heart Church on Friday, March 1st at 9:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
