Margaret Petraschuk

Margaret (nee Macko) Petraschuk of Yonkers passed away on Tuesday August 30th, after a brief battle with colon cancer. She was born on October 12, 1926 to the late John and Anna (Kadravy) Macko. Marge or Margie as she was known was one of 12 children. Six brothers predeceased her, Joseph, John, George, Peter, Michael and Andrew Macko and three sisters, Helen Sommers, Anna Dundas and Mary Sakala.Two surviving sisters are Catherine Fenyo of Yonkers and Mildred Polsik (Louis) of Schenectady. Marge is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Marge graduated from Yonkers High School of Commerce in 1944 and went on to work for the Jewish Guild for the Blind in Yonkers for 42 years retiring in 1988 as an administrative assistant secretary. She volunteered along with her sister Catherine to work as Parish Secretary for St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church where she has been a parishioner for over 50 years. She married Michael Petraschuk on November 15, 1958 at St. Michael’s Church. He predeceased her on January 28, 1989. Marge was a member of the Golden Agers, a St. Michael’s parish senior group and the Charles Cola senior center on North Broadway. There she enjoyed playing cards, bingo and bus and casino trips with her sister and friends. She enjoyed watching bowling and golf on TV and bowled for a number of years receiving many trophies. Marge traveled extensively throughout Europe with her husband Michael and later with family members. She was kind, generous and full of fun and loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 20 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y. 10703 (914)963-0209. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Monday September 5th from 2 to 7pm with a mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday September 6th at 10am at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
