

Born on January 25, 1942 to Antonio Jose and Isabel da Conceicao Canelas in Monfortinho, Portugal, Maria was raised and educated there before moving to the United States. She spent many years working as a maintenance worker for Liberty Lines Bus Company before her retirement.
Maria was known for her generous, kind-hearted, and selfless nature. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Filipe Pocas, who predeceased her on August 23, 2020. Maria is survived by her five children: Pedro Vaz-Pocas, whose late wife was Margarida Flavia Vaz-Pocas; Noemia Angelo; Helder Pocas and his wife, Diony Pocas; Amilcar Pocas and future wife Cristina Travieso; and Adelaide Dolgetta and her husband, John Dolgetta. Her legacy is further carried on by her seven grandchildren: Carla Vaz-Pocas Larca, Daniel Vaz-Pocas and his wife, Lauren Vaz-Pocas, Anthony Pocas, Michael Angelo, Sara Pocas, Joseph Dolgetta, and Johnny Dolgetta, as well as her four great-grandchildren: Gianna Larca, Nathan Vaz-Pocas, Logan Vaz-Pocas, and Maxim Vaz-Pocas.
Visiting hours will be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, located at 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703, on Sunday September 28, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will take place at the same location on Monday September 29, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am, followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, 50 Jackson Ave, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706,
Maria will be remembered for her devoted and loving spirit, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
