I will always remember Mary Ellen as an excellent  head nurse and later director of Pediatrics.  Her title never stopped her from getting involved  in actual bedside patient care.  She loved and truly cared for the kids, often working the night shift when there was a need.  Mary Ellen also cared about her staff.  I will never forget the support and encouragement she gave me and my family when I was dealing with cancer.  As my husband and daughter sat in the waiting room during my surgery, Mary Ellen was there for them.  That they will always remember.  Bill, you will miss her, but know that in her life she had touched the lives of so many people, who were blessed to know her. Rest in peace Mary Ellen.

I am saddened to hear about MaryEllen. She was a wonderful boss. I think about her often and wish her family comfort in the fact that she is with The Lord. And she is truly at peace. I can still picture her walking down the hall in the Peds unit early in the morning with a quick "Hello Honey" and smile.

To Mary Ellen's family, please except my condolences. I was a newbe at St. John's when I first meet Mary Ellen..I remember working overtime on her unit and how she always made me feel welcomed..Mary Ellen made an impact on my life and after all these years that have passed she always came to me in my thoughts of years past..loved ones of Mary Ellen please try and take comfort in the memories good and bad and keep her alive in your hearts..know that she is pain free and disease free and will always shine down upon you all.
Mary Ellen rest in peace because you were a beautiful lady.....will continue to think about you and will keep William in my prays that his days get easier to except without you there with him.

My deepest sympathy to Mary Ellen's family.  Our parents were very good friends (in fact, my Dad was in Mary Ellen's parents wedding).  In July, 1973 ~ my daughter was in the same nursery at St. John's Hospital as Mary Ellen's nephew.  Know that you are all in my prayers and one of my favorite poems is "How You Live Your Dash". I know its been only a week, but I miss you more than you know. You were not just my stepmom but you were also one of best friends. Mary Ellen and I were very good  friends back in the late 50s and throughout the 60s until we moved out of Yonkers.I have thought of her many times ( as well as her family) throughout the years. I remember Mary Ellen coming with us on our vacation to Atlantic City ( before the casinos ) swimming in their pool and setting up our Kool Aid stand  and hoping to make a quarter each many times.I am sad that I was never able to find her or her brothers. You are in my thoughts and prayers. When someone you love becomes a memory......the memory becomes a treasure. May Mary Ellen rest in peace Jackie boy and Danny boy that is how I remember you.
